The loneliest galaxies in the Universe: a GAMA and Galaxy Zoo study on void galaxy morphology

چکیده

The large-scale structure (LSS) of the Universe is comprised galaxy filaments, tendrils, and voids. majority Universe's volume taken up by these voids, which exist as underdense, but not empty, regions. galaxies found inside voids are expected to be some most isolated objects in Universe. This study, using Galaxy Mass Assembly (GAMA) Zoo surveys, aims investigate basic physical properties morphology void versus field (filament tendril) galaxies. We use with stellar masses $9.35 < log(M/M_\odot) 11.25$, this sample split identifying two redshift-limited regions, 0 z 0.075, and, $0.075 0.15$. To find comparable from GAMA Zoo, we identify "twins" within $\pm$0.05 dex $\pm$0.15 M specific star formation rate. determine statistical significance our results Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test. see that galaxies, contrast seem disk-dominated have predominantly round bulges (with > 50 percent citizen scientists agreeing present).

Galaxy Zoo: Bars in Disk Galaxies

We present first results from Galaxy Zoo 2, the second phase of the highly successful Galaxy Zoo project (www.galaxyzoo.org). Using a volume–limited sample of 13665 disk galaxies (0.01 < z < 0.06 and Mr < −19.38), we study the fraction of galaxies with bars as a function of global galaxy properties like colour, luminosity and bulge prominence. Overall, 29.4 ± 0.5% of galaxies in our sample have...

Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA)

The GAMA survey aims to deliver 250,000 optical spectra (3–7Å resolution) over 250 sq. degrees to spectroscopic limits of rAB < 19.8 and KAB < 17.0 mag. Complementary imaging will be provided by GALEX, VST, UKIRT, VISTA, HERSCHEL and ASKAP to comparable flux levels leading to a definitive multi-wavelength galaxy database. The data will be used to study all aspects of cosmic structures on 1kpc t...

Galaxy-galaxy-galaxy lensing: Third-order correlations between the galaxy and mass distributions in the Universe

Abstract. Galaxy-galaxy lensing (GGL) measures the 2-point cross-correlation between galaxies and mass in the Universe. In this work we seek to generalise this effect by considering the third-order correlations between galaxies and mass: galaxy-galaxy-galaxy lensing. Third-order correlations in the cosmic shear field have recently been reported in the VIRMOS-DESCART and CTIO surveys. Such data ...
